Oregon Coast STEM Hub

The Oregon Coast STEM Hub (OCSH) was formed in 2014 thanks to the vision and leadership of several coastal partners and funding from the Oregon Department of Education. Given our location on the coast, the OCSH is particularly focused on career-connected learning related to the Blue Economy and ocean health. Since its inception, the OCSH has provided over 22,000 hours of student STEM/CTE experiences, 9,020 direct hours of educator STEM/CTE professional development, and nurtured partnerships with 64 entities located up and down the Oregon coast - from Brookings to Astoria.

Partnerships are central to our work and include STEM/CTE businesses and organizations, K-12 school districts, early childhood learning hubs, informal education and government organizations, and two- and four-year colleges, to name a few. In 2020, we are partnering with CSforAll to support P-12 computer science education pathways for participating coastal school districts, providing computer science teacher professional development in partnership with CS for Oregon, and CS counselor professional development in partnership with the National Center for Women in Information Technology. We are also rolling out Next Generation Science Standards support for rural Oregon school districts in partnership with the Oregon Science Project and early childhood STEM professional development in partnership with the Bostom Museum of Science.

In February, the Georgia Pacific mill in Toledo presented a $25,000 donation to expand our reach. As a global leader in the wood products and paper industry, GP employs a broad range of STEM professionals ranging from engineering, information technology, environmental health and safety, to accounting, manufacturing and operations. With this support, we are excited to expand STEM family engagement opportunities in Lincoln County and along the coast. Thank you Georgia-Pacific!
