The Oregon Coast STEM Hub was formed in 2014 thanks to the vision and leadership of several coastal partners and funding from the Oregon Department of Education. Since its inception, the OCSH has provided over 22,000 hours of student STEM experiences, 9,020 direct hours of educator STEM professional development, and nurtured partnerships with 64 separate entities located up and down the Oregon coast - from Brookings to Astoria. Our partners include STEM businesses and organizations, K-12 school districts, early childhood learning hubs, informal education and government organizations, and two- and four-year colleges, to name a few. Given our location on the coast, the OCSH is particularly focused on career-connected learning related to the Blue Economy and ocean health.
In 2020, we are partnering with CSforAll to support K-12 computer science education pathways for participating coastal school districts, providing computer science teacher professional development in partnership with CS for Oregon, and CS counselor professional development in partnership with the National Center for Women in Information Technology. Also new this year is science teacher professional development using the Patterns Approach in partnership with Portland Metro STEM Hub, ongoing NGSS teacher support with additional funding to support conversations across rural Oregon elementary schools, and early childhood STEM professional development. We are particularly excited to be rolling out our first STEM Passport to advance family engagement as part of STEM Week, held the first week in May.
