Whether it's lesson plans, educational kits, funding sources or field sites, this section of the Oregon Coast STEM Hub website is designed to connect teachers with resources that support coastal STEM education.
The Oregon Marine Debris STEAMSS curriculum was created by Oregon Coast STEM Hub partners in 2014 with funding support from the NOAA Marine Debris Program. Marine Debris is a complex, real-world problem which integrates the subject areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math, and Social Studies (STEAMSS). The issue of marine debris is especially relevant to students living in coastal areas, and the topic offers opportunities for student data collection and stewardship actions at local field sites.
The Oregon Marine Debris STEAMSS curriculum is only one of several STEM lessons and activities shared by the Oregon Coast STEM Hub. Visit the curriculum pages to browse lessons by topic.
Did you know that Oregon Coast educators have access to materials to support implementation of STEM lessons with students? The Oregon Coast STEM Hub has stocked trailers with equipment such as rain boots, Vernier probes, microscopes, scales, magnets, energy kits and much, much more. The trailers full of equipment are located in Curry, Coos, Lincoln, and Clatsop counties. In-school and out-of-school partner educators in our Hub may borrow materials for up to two weeks at no cost. Choose the trailer nearest you and click on the link to access the online checkout system.
As the Oregon Coast STEM Hub develops, we anticipate more and more information will appear on these webpages. Eventually certain lists will have to be categorized by geographic region or subject so that users can find what they need. You can help contribute to this resource in the following ways:
